Communications Manager


Coalition for Queens (C4Q) seeks a Communications Manager who will create and implement external and internal communications programs that effectively promote C4Q and build the C4Q brand. The objective of our communications program is to make C4Q the definitive nonprofit in tech, leading the national conversation about tech and economic mobility.

The Communications Manager will be key to achieving success across projects by crafting the most impactful narrative about C4Q and then establishing this narrative externally through media coverage and marketing campaigns. In addition to developing short-term and long-term strategies and goals, the Communications Manager will spearhead media placement and press releases, create effective and persuasive content marketing, and lead C4Q newsletters and social media efforts.

The scope of C4Q’s work is also reflected in the wide range of different stakeholders we work with, including tech companies, startups, entrepreneurs, community groups, elected officials, and Queens residents. The Communications Manager must create strategies that engage all of these groups and build a larger audience.




  • Design, identify, and develop strategies to build robust external and internal communications programs

  • Build C4Q brand as the definitive nonprofit in tech

  • Drive media coverage of C4Q by building relationships with current media partners and cultivating new partnerships

  • Generate compelling stories through a deep understanding of the tech industry, funding trends, and C4Q’s internal organization

  • Drive creation and development of materials in support of communications programs

  • Create and develop content marketing strategy

  • Track communications efforts and develop strategies to increase reach and efficacy



  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably in communications or PR

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital and social media

  • Familiarity with the tech world; previous industry experience is a plus

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and an ability to excel in a startup environment, working under tight deadlines and under pressure

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to build, lead, and motivate a communications team

  • Outgoing personality, ability to work with multiple stakeholders from various backgrounds

  • Strong work ethic

  • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping

  • Strong mission and values alignment with C4Q, and interest in technology
