Policy Associate

Coalition for Queens seeks a Community & Policy Associate to help refine and implement The Queens Tech Strategic Plan through a particularly community-focused lens. He or She would work directly with community groups in Queens to identify needs, develop outreach strategies, and enhance the overall experience of our communities and supporters.

The Queens Tech Strategic Plan is a multidisciplinary community-based urban and economic development initiative by Coalition for Queens with the support of the Queens Borough President’s Office, NYC Mayor's Office, and Cornell NYC Tech. With Queens’ nascent tech community, diverse population, and latent talent, the borough has unique potential to be a leading hub for tech innovation and entrepreneurship.

Working closely with tech companies, entrepreneurs, technologists, and the local Queens community, the Queens Tech Strategic Plan aims to identify opportunities to build upon the current tech activity and propose initiatives to support its future growth in Queens & New York City. The Community & Policy Associate would help drive these relationships and support the creation of innovative policy that builds Queens tech.

C4Q works with leading business and philanthropic organizations to build an innovative, inclusive, and diverse Queens tech community. 

Responsibilities

  Collaborate with community groups and local government to inform policy making:

  • Develop, refine, and implement outreach strategies to enhance the overall experience of our communities and supporters

  • Work with the core Strategic Plan team, Task Force members, community stakeholders and other various groups to formulate strategic planning policy recommendations

  • Assist the Policy & Advocacy Team in engaging elected officials, community groups, local residents, and other stakeholders

  • Help synthesize data and research through white papers, policy proposals, and other forms of research

  • Help develop, refine, and implement an innovative policy and advocacy roadmap for C4Q with both short-term and long-term strategies and goals

  Refine and implement initiatives that strengthen community relations:

  • Facilitate the Team with other related work and initiatives such as events and recruitment

  • Assist in the production and execution of community events, workshops, and Strategic Plan meetings

  • Collaborate with greater Queens community to understand community group needs & develop methods of support

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Experience working with a diverse range of communities

  • Solid interpersonal skills and charismatic personality

  • Forward-thinking and able to think across different disciplines

  • Able to communicate precisely and effectively, both verbally and in written form

  • Deep understanding of current policy and economic initiatives, including an assessment of other tech hubs and case studies

  • Able to quickly synthesize new information and data about urban and economic policies

  • Able to re-prioritize, shift energies, and quickly adjust to shifting timelines while maintaining momentum

  • Able to work with limited supervision

  • Strong mission and values alignment with C4Q, and interest in technology
  • Strong work ethic
