About C4Q Labs

Software is vital to a growing number of industries, spanning everything from Digital Manufacturing to Wearable Technology. As part of the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s Futureworks NYC program, C4Q Labs aims to ensure inclusivity in these emergent sectors. By providing access to experts, education, and equipment, we are equipping our fellows and alumni with the skills and relationships they will need for the tech jobs of the future.

TOURs

We organize tours of advanced manufacturing facilities throughout NYC. These visits introduce attendees to the factories and makerspaces that are facilitating hardware innovation for companies across a range of industries. Upcoming tours include:

  • NYDesigns
  • Shapeways
  • The Nanofab at CUNY's Advanced Science Research Center
  • Steinway & Sons (for select Access Code fellows only)

PANELS

We host panels featuring entrepreneurs, engineers, and investors. Speakers describe their work, discuss industry trends, and provide attendees with a deeper understanding of NYC’s hardware, digital fabrication, and Internet of Things sectors. Panels foster connections and collaboration between the city’s software and hardware worlds. Upcoming panels include:

  • Advanced Manufacturing in Queens
  • Women in Interactive Design
  • Urbantech Innovations
  • Physical Products for Social Good

workshops

We lead technical workshops that focus on the intersection of hardware and software. Industry experts teach each workshop, which takes attendees through the development of a specific project. Topics include:

Classes

We will teach an intensive 3D printing and product design curriculum. Over 10 weeks, fellows will learn to design 3D models using TinkerCAD, Fusion 360, and Meshmixer. By the end of the course, fellows will have their own Shapeways storefronts, as well as a portfolio of at least 4 products in 4 materials. Applications for this course will open in early 2018.

Equipment

MACHINES AND MATERIALS

We are building a electronics lab at our main office. This space will host our workshops, and we invite anyone to come learn about digital fabrication and electronics. Our tools include:

  • 3D Printer
    • Ultimaker 3
  • Adafruit Development Boards
    • Circuit Playground Express
    • Trinket M0
    • GEMMA M0
    • Feather HUZZAH
    • FLORA
  • Arduino Uno
  • Assorted motors, sensors, components
  • Soldering stations

OPEN ACCESS WORKSpace

After completing an equipment safety workshop, everyone is welcome to use our space and tools during open access hours. These free sessions allow C4Q community members to utilize our space to work on prototyping new products. This time allows makers throughout our network to build products and use their coding skills to manipulate physical devices.
